If you live in our area and are interested in aviation or flying then you may be interested in what we do! Feel free to explore our website. We would be happy to welcome you to our meetings, where you will meet some of our members.
Our newsletter is published about seven days before the date of the next meeting; copy deadline is end of the preceeding month. Please note that the current newsletter is available only to members, who will need to login opposite with their username and password.
for sport aviation in and around the Cotswolds
The Gloster Strut is a local aviation group affiliated to the Light Aircraft Association and based in the Gloucestershire area. We cater for all aviation enthusiasts, from spotter to builder, taking in balloonists, trainee pilots, PPL holders and gyroplane exponents. Our Strut is open to all, and actively supports education through projects such as Young Aviators, Aviation Weekends for Scouts, and via the Education Strut.
We meet on the second Tuesday of each month at Aeros Flying Club, Gloucestershire Airport, starting at 7.30pm. Our strut has over 100 members, with a healthy proportion of members at each meeting.
to be held at Croft Farm near Defford on 6th/7th September.
We plan to teach 30 Scouts a short navigational flight plan of 30 minutes at 90 kts, we would then like to fly them around this course. Any pilot able to spare the flight time and who is current, would be welcome from about 0930 on Saturday 6th Sept, (Sunday is a fallback day).
We will also be teaching Meteorology and Aeronautics badge subjects, including Marshalling, Pre Flight inspection, how an aeroplane flies, access top Airfields and RT.
Please let Alan Twigg know if you can make yourself and your aircraft available.
Tuesday 12th August: many LAA members start as aeromodellers and some eventually return to it. If, like our Chairman, your modelling experiences date back more years than you’d care to admit, you’ll find a lot has changed. We were treated to a spirited flying display, and heard about the current generation of models, spanning gliders through to jets, both fixed wing and rotary.
July Meeting
Show and tell: Aquila
Rob Simpson flew his Aquila for members to see, touch and drool over. It certainly is a sleek and impressive machine and Rob did a good job at selling its virtues: I certainly wanted one but the comptroller of finances (her indoors) says NO. But one can dream.
